The Great Debate

Do you ever have that moment when you are listening to the conversation going on around you and all you can do is restrain yourself from shouting "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" Well, that very experience happened as I listened to a conversation being hand on the couch next to me in my very own home.
I know you are all dying to know what on earth could cause me to write this post. Let me set up the situation for you. So here it is a quite thursday night at home with my roommates when suddenly there is a knock at the door. I answer and a kid from my ward is standing there with a bag of candy and some schpeil about how it is gratitude for helping the music committee at church. I take the candy, but he doesn't leave. So I invite him to sit down and join us. (Rather than stand there awkwardly holding the door open)
Conversation picks up and goes pretty ok for a while when all of a sudden out of what seems like no where this kid starts talking about the movie Twilight! Normally one would think a guy would bash that movies to pieces so I prepared myself to join him. Only to my great and utter astonishment he starts talking about how wonderful the movie is and how many lessons there are to be learned.
He talks about how it shows the importance of being vulerable and how there are great lessons to learn about dating. How Bella needed a commitment to Edward, and that is so great. Somehow he talked about girls perspective of suidide because of a boy leaving her.. still not sure how that plays in... of course I have yet to see the movies or read the books. He raved and raved about how fantastic this Twilight was. Then I laid into him with several opposing view points. And suddenly found myself in a debate where the guy supported twilight and I did not.  (My stance, in case you were wondering is that I am  morally opposed to it and I think it is super bizare, and that it causes girls to look for unrealistic things in dating, and that is a trashy novel disguised as something else. But hey that's just to name a few things about how i feel.)
Back to the original question.. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? HAHA  Wow! What is this world coming to?  Despite my true feelings about the media discussed in this blog post I feel it should also be pointed out that a guy was defending a girly romance novel thing. Just saying. (guess he wants to appear vulnerable too) Also, there are some odd ducks out there in this world incase you were wondering!!
* to all twilight fans I apologize for any upset feelings I have inflicted upon you however this is my blog and I reserve the right to say what I really think! :)
