A letter to the President

Dear Mr. President,

Though I doubt you will ever read the letter found on a blog post, I still feel the need to write to you as if you will actually listen. You see, I know that you are a person too and as a human you must have some sympathies to feel human emotions. I’m sure you probably feel you’ve done an excellent job in your roll as president, and actually that’s not what I am writing for today. I am writing to ask you for your help.

You recently created “Obama care” which is supposed to allow all US citizens the right to insurance.  I wonder if you have considered at the time of its creation what some of the side effects would be for this decision. I write to represent myself, but also so many others that I know.

Do you know how hard it is to find a job these days? Have you tried it out Mr. President? (Obviously not, because you have a job and a salary and government provided healthcare) As a recent college graduate, I put 10 resumes and applications per day and never even got called back on most of them. When I followed up I was either too overly qualified, or too under qualified. Many companies aren’t able to hire full-time employees simply because they can’t afford to insure them.

This is a chain reaction that leaves many people without enough money to pay for insurance because they don’t have enough hours at a part time job. Therefore, many of them began working multiple jobs. Hence, (in order to get insurance and still lacking other benefits), many employees in the United States are now working 14-16 hour long days or more instead of working your typical 9-5 job. Longer hours and fewer benefits, does that sound right to you?

Personally, I have come out of this crunch alright and eventually found two jobs to support myself for now. The most I work a day is only 12 hours so I really can’t complain.  I was wondering however, if you might be able to give employment to some of my friends. I’m sure you could afford to pay their salary out of your own pocket. They aren’t asking for much. In fact, they aren’t even asking. I am asking for them. They are hard workers. They have so much to contribute, but they simply can’t find work!  As part of the problem I wondered if you might also want to be part of the solution. Perhaps it was not something you considered before, but I wonder if you will please consider it now and in the future!

Sincerely,
A concerned friend and citizen
