Do Something



Sometimes I look around at the incredible people near by me and I am astounded. Why you ask? Many of these people have the same goal. They all want a very specific blessing and yet they don't want to do anything about it. Some of them have more control over the situation than others. To them I want to stand and shout "HEY DO SOMETHING", but then I remember self, you also have to do something too!

 There are things to be done and yet we stand waiting for something to happen. This will not work! We need to run and catch our dreams. We need to take the bull by the horns and do something. I'm not saying we have to take giant steps every day, but we have to do something! Change requires action! If you want something go after it!

Sometimes the attribute I feel the world is lacking is passion. As defined,passion is a powerful or compelling emotion. It seems like we often settle for less then what we actually want. Why? Because we simply don't want to put forth the effort to make what we want happen. It takes work.

Passion and work combined can create a powerful source for progress and improvement in our lives! I've seen it. One of my very best friends in the world exudes passion and work. It spews from his soul. And you know what, he makes a difference everywhere he goes. He has a passion for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Every person around him knows about the gospel. He lives it fully and faithfully with every fiber of his being! He has a passion for learning. He shares what he learns with everyone around him and he invites others to help him learn through experiments, and asking good questions. He has a passion for people. His energy is focused on helping those less fortunate than him. When he sees a need, he meets it simply because his passion moves him to do so.

What if we all took on this passion for life? What if I did? What more would I get accomplished in a day? How many more people could I help? How many more goals would be accomplished? How many more miracles would take place?

My invitation to myself and all of us is to learn to develop the same passion, zeal, and excitement for life that my friend has shown me! Lets live more fully, experience more deeply, and get more accomplished! Let's DO SOMETHING TODAY to ensure a better, happier, and successful tomorrow!

The Battle to Be Still

Post surgery I continue to hear the phrase "just rest!" It's ironic because this phrase has created an internal and external battle for me. I have not been blessed with the gift of being still. In fact, if the scriptures were written about me it would say, "Be busy, and try to stay out of God's way". Don't worry, I won't change the scriptures, I'll try to adapt myself to the Bible as it stands. First I will illustrate part of the problem I face in adapting to being still. Let me share some real life examples that make it hard to slow down. "Hey Ashley I know you have surgery today, but I have a question..." "Hey don't do too much... but could you make sure you are here for the four terminations we have on Thursday? Can you also finish payroll. Ode to the "Great Harvester"

For two years I have had a companion in the "great harvester". I'll never forget when I woke up in the hospital in 2022 and there was a bag attached to my side. I was told prior to the surgery that there was a 2% chance of such an event, but I couldn't understand how it had happened. The kindest nurse came in and tried to make it ok. She told me that naming things attached to our body can make them become less of a burden, and more of a blessing. At the time I wasn't in much of a joking mood, but tried to keep my humor... this Stoma would literally touch everything I ever ate. Thus the birth of the great harvester.
