The view from the greener grass

Does anyone else struggle with the grass is greener mentality? When I am skinny then I will be happy. When I have a nice house, then I will feel successful. When I get straight a's then I will be smart. When I go on several dates in a week, then I will like dating.

Well, recently I have had the chance to stand on the greener side of the pasture. There are perks, but there are still problems. Just because you are skinnier, doesn't mean you don't find things wrong with your body. Just because you get a promotion, doesn't mean you won't still feel inadequate at work. Just because you go on lots of dates in a week doesn't mean you won't find the process frustrating. (this one by the way also may cause your friends to hate you) Maybe then this principle applies to other things. For example, one day as I leave the brown pastures of single life, and enter the green pastures of marriage there will still be problems. Or maybe when I own my own home I will have to pay for a new roof. Maybe when I have a children I will have to watch them suffer and not be able to help.

Please don't miss understand. My life is actually quite beautiful. It is very green right now. However, it has caused me to reflect deeply on perspective. Seeing the yard from the greener side has shown me that we really don't know or understand each other as much as we sometimes think we do. We are all facing our battles. We are all doing our best to find joy in this life. We are all pressing forward. We all need each other's support, friendship, and love. Thankfully in this life we have the chance to move from green, to greener, and greenest pastures until one day we return to our Father in Heaven. Life is a progression. We simply keep becoming.

While we are standing in each field though, it may be of great worth to stop and enjoy the scenery Really focus to see what we can learn from the view and make sure we aren't simply passing by our lives. Also, when looking at other's lives, don't be blinded by what appears to be green. Take a moment to come to see the world from their perspective. Most of all, appreciate the green moments in your life, and help others to see the green in their own lives.
